Is the DTP vaccine shortage real or imagined? That was the major question posed to witnesses at a December 19 House of Representatives hearing. Chaired by Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), the subcommittee on health and the environment sought to clarify conflicting reports on the supply and availability of DTP. Waxman's call for a hearing was prompted in part by a December 13 statement by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control that, "beginning in January 1985, supplies of DTP will be very limited and some areas may be without DP vaccine.
