Trip to South America fosters understanding

The Academy truly is an all-American organization, with members extending from Canada to the tip of South America. It is one of the very few medical organizations to represent all pediatricians in the Americas.

In the past few years, membership in Central and South America has lagged, and it has been over a decade since the AAP's leadership has visited the area on an official trip. From November 15 to November 28, Past President Paul Wehrle, M.D., Executive Director M. Harry Jennison, M.D., and I made such a trip, to four Central and South American countries: Mexico, Columbia, Venezuela and Argentina.
