Nobody knows exactly how many children are missing in the United States. "You'll find a variety of estimates," cautions Jay Howell, executive director of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. AAP News contacted a number of organizations which work to find and identify missing children and received the following responses: How many children are missing each year? Promotional literature from the Adam Walsh Child Resource Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., claims 1.8 million. Material from the Missing Children's Help Center in nearby Tampa says the figure is 2 million. Child Find, Inc., in upstate New York estimates at least 1.5 million.
