CHIRP pushed as way to reverse inflationary health care costs

Citing the special tax status granted employer-provided health insurance plans as a significant contributor to the waste and inefficiences that have bloated national health care spending, the Academy petitioned Congress last month to place health incentives high on its tax reform agenda.

AAP President Robert J. Haggerty, M.D., testifying before the Senate Subcommittee on Taxation and Debt Management, explained that health care costs could be reduced by amending the federal tax code to deny any employer a deduction for group health plan expenses unless the plan includes coverage of pediatric preventive care.
