We are writing in response to an article that appeared in Health Alert in the June AAP News, 1which may have needlessly concerned some readers. The article cited, without specific reference, a study suggesting that "a modest period of zinc deficiency impairs the immune response that vaccinations ... depend on. ..." The article attributes the study researchers with saying that zinc deficiency is "a common dietary problem in the United States" and that to "protect malnourished children against some diseases, it might be necessary to revaccinate them with certain antigens. ..."
