WASHINGTON UPDATE

HHS funding

A fiscal 1986 funding bill for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has received approval from the Senate Appropriations Labor-HHS Subcommittee. The bill exceeds President Reagan's request by $4 billion and falls barely within the Congressionally-imposed spending limits passed earlier this year.

While the majority of programs are held at fiscal 1985 spending levels, the subcommittee approved several spending increases and none of the Reagan Administration's proposed, spending reductions.
