The mayor of New York, Ed Koch, is fond of calling out "How'm I doin'?" to crowds in the city. I would like to have the opportunity to ask all AAP members the same question; however, in the absence of such an opportunity, let me assess how we're doin'. I emphasize we're because the Academy truly is directed by a collective leadership. I believe that an AAP president should lead and not just follow, create and not just maintain the status quo. Still, there is no question that greater wisdom exists in the current collective leadership, which includes the Executive Committee, Executive Board, Chapter Chairmen, Committee Chairmen and other AAP members who contribute so much to the running of this remarkable organization.
