Outside the hospital, rescue workers dug through the rubble. Inside, pediatricians examined injured newborns, using the children's identification bracelets to measure the grim race against time. One infant, whose bracelet noted a birth weight of 3.3 kilos, was brought to the physicians. In the four days that had passed since the first terremoto, the child had lost about .3 kilos.
