AAP representation of poor children reviewed

The Academy was formed 55 years ago by the pediatricians in the Pediatric Section of the American Medical Association. They felt the need to establish a forum and an organization which would advocate for the rights and needs of children, particularly poor children. From that beginning, the Academy has grown in its numbers, respect and influence.

In the past several years, there has been an increased need and request for advocacy for pediatricians who provide the majority of the child health care in this country.
