In the wake of a federal pilot study showing a strong link between aspirin use and Reye Syndrome, the nation's major aspirin manufacturers last month agreed to take several steps warning the public that the drug should not be used to treat children or teenagers with chicken pox or influenza. The aspirin makers agreed to make label changes and to issue warnings through broadcast public service announcements and store posters. The agreement was reached after nearly two weeks of meetings between the U.S. Food and Drug Administraltion and the Aspirin Foundation of America, a trade organization representing most major aspirin companies.
