AAP News Vol. 1 No. 2 February 1985, p. 3 © 1985 American Academy of Pediatrics
Many Academy members are concerned that there are too many pediatricians in the United States. The combination of increased production of physicians and the decline in the number of births and of many serious illnesses have led many observers to conclude that there are too many physicians, including pediatricians, in the U.S. Members, especially those practicing in urban areas, face increasing competition in starting a practice or even in maintaining an existing one, and new reimbursement methods accentuate the competitive nature of pediatric practice today.
