How can the day care setting be used to identify and prevent child abuse? by David L. Chadwick, M.D. Practitioner, San Diego, Calif. Member, AAP Committee on Early Childhood, Adoption and Dependent Care Child abuse can be prevented through two sorts of measures. The first is to identify the children and families who are likely to be affected; the second is to provide the sorts of guidance, support and assistance which they need to avoid actual abusive acts. Both of these things can be done in day care settings. However, both require special training, expertise and expenditures of time that go well beyond ordinary, good child care.
