Alliance aims to eliminate auto-related fatalities

AAP Department of Development

The numbers are tragic and largely preventable.

Automobile crashes are a leading cause of death among our nation's pre-school children. Hundreds of youngsters die in car accidents every year, and 50,000 to 60,000 others are injured. Seventy percent of these deaths and injuries could be prevented through the proper use of car seats, experts say.

The Academy and Allstate Insurance Co. have joined forces to introduce the All Kids Safe public education campaign, funded with an $80,200 grant from The Allstate Foundation. Allstate Insurance Co. also will invest $20,000 in additional support, and pediatricians and Allstate agents will distribute public education information that could save children's lives. While the focus is on automobile safety, the Academy and Allstate will develop future programs on safety at home and at play.
