Teen HIV testing

Minors should have the right to consent to HIV testing, according to a Connecticut study.

Researchers calculated the number of 13- to 17-year-olds who obtained HIV tests before and after state legislation allowed them to get tested without parental consent.

Results showed:

• 656 minors visited test sites in the 12 months prior to the law, compared with 945 visits after;
