Experience teaches tough but lasting lessons: Family issues at heart of new president's agenda

It is an understatement to say the role off family in child health and well-being is important to incoming AAP President Joseph R. Zanga, M.D. In fact, family ranks first on a list of topics he plans to focus on during his tenure.

A child advocate for more than 20 years, Dr. Zanga, 53, said he'll address the pediatrician's role in family-related issues from a practical, rather than an idealistic perspective, targeting support for single-parent families and encouragement of fathers' continual involvement in their children's lives.
