UTI in preeimies

Premature infants with urinary tract infection (UTI) and birth weight greater than 1000 g should receive prophylactic antibiotic therapy until imaging evaluation can be completed, according to a study conducted in Israel.

Over a four-year period, researchers studied 335 premature infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of a regional hospital in Tel-Aviv. UTI was present in 27 of the infants, and four had coexistent urosepsis.
