Glucose water given to infants in the first few days of life could reduce the duration of breastfeeding, according to Spanish researchers. Subjects included 180 newborns split into two groups. The glucose water (GW) group received 5 percent glucose water from a bottle for the first three days of life only if the newborn became anxious after the breast had been offered, while the nonglucose water (NGW) group received only breast milk during the same period.
