12 community projects win Healthy Tomorrows grants

The Healthy Tomorrows Partnership for Children Program, a collaborative grant program of the Academy and the federal Maternal and Child Health Bureau, has approved 12 new community-based projects for funding that began Oct. 1, 1997. The programs will receive approximately $50,000 annually for five years. Part of the community-based component of the AAP Access to Care Initiative, Healthy Tomorrows was launched in 1989 to ensure access to quality health care for all U.S. children and pregnant women. Federal grants awarded through the program support family-centered, community-based projects that improve the health status of mothers, infants, children and adolescents by increasing their access to health services. Since 1989, a total of 96 grants have been awarded; 43 of the 96 projects have been completed.
