New on-screen icons make educational TV easier to find

Look for the "E" and the "I." No, it's not an eye chart test. It's advice pediatricians can now give to parents who want to find educational and informational television programming for children.

Sept. 1 marked the start of new rules by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requiring every TV station to air three hours each week of educational and informational television programming for children. As a result, the fall television lineup for children's shows looks a little different.
