America is in a reading crisis. Far too many children including those you see daily in your practice are growing up without the reading skills they need to succeed in school and life. Recent studies reveal that: More than 40 percent of fourth graders read below grade level.* Children ages 9 to 14 spend more than 20 percent of their waking hours watching TV, but only 1 percent of waking time reading.
