'Discipline' no excuse for physical emotional injury

Dear Colleagues:

In many of your local newspapers, and in a few national publications as well, the Academy's name has been evoked regarding the topic of discipline. A controversy has developed based on the conference held last February at AAP headquarters. That conference, organized by the Division of Adolescent Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Albert Einstein College of Medicine/ Montifiore Medical Center, and cosponsored by the Academy, was entitled The Short- and Long-term Consequences of Corporal Punishment.
