Infanrix latest DTaP vaccine to win approval

Stefanie Dell' Aringa

Infanrix, SmithKline Beecham Biological's DTaP (diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis) vaccine joins the growing number of combination vaccines in that field receiving Food and Drug Administration (FDA) licensure.

To be distributed by SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals, Infanrix (Diphtheria and Tetanus Toxoids and Acellular Pertussis Vaccine Adsorbed) is indicated for active immunization against diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis in infants and children 6 weeks to 7 years of age (prior to 7th birthday).

It is the only available DTaP vaccine included in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Efficacy Trials, a company spokesman said.
