Education, training ideas sought for long-range project

Academy members and others in the pediatric community are encouraged to submit their written opinions on pediatric education and training issues for the AAP Future of Pediatric Education II (FOPE-II) project.

The project, a three-year initiative that began in June 1996, is examining health care needs of children and the work-force necessary to meet those needs. Under the direction of the FOPE-II Task Force, five work groups will focus on key issues, including:

• the education of the pediatrician;

the pediatric workforce;

• financing graduate medical education;

pediatric generalists of the future; and

• pediatric subspecialists of the future.
