Pediatricians needed for disability determinations

Leigh Ann Bluestein

The delayed release of new Supplemental Security Income (SSI) rules issued on Feb. 11 created a backlog of children in need of further medical information for their evaluation under the redefined categories of disability.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) is in need of pediatricians who can assist in providing medical evidence for those children who are applying for SSI and those who must have their eligibility redetermined. If the SSA asks for additional medical evidence for a child's determination, they will compensate the pediatrician for his or her involvement.
