With the flick of a thumb (or the pull of a plug), millions of Americans on April 24 will initiate one of the most significant public-health movements in our history: National TV-Turnoff Week.

More than 3 million people in schools and community groups are seizing the opportunity to declare freedom from the tube and choose a wide range of other activities that are healthy in the broad sense of the word.
