Senator launches children's health plan

Marjorie Tharp

Sen. Mike Dewine (R-Ohio) proposed a four-part legislative plan March 20 to improve children's health through medical research, insurance coverage, pediatric training and public health.

"My plan is quite simple: be the voice for children's health issues," Sen. DeWine said at a press conference announcing the proposal and introducing the first bill. "When there is a press conference on managed care, I will be asking how it affects children. When there is a hearing involving the Food and Drug Administration, I will be asking about approved drugs for children. And when there is a debate on medical education, I will be asking about pediatric care." Sen. DeWine is the father of eight children.
