New information on bee sting removal has prompted the Academy's Division of Public Education to revise future publications on the subject. The revisions were prompted by results of a bee sting study published in The Lancet (Visscher, et al. August 1996), which suggest that quick removal is more important than the method of removal, though much emphasis has been placed on scraping versus pinching off a stinger. "Future revisions should include this information," said Robert Wiebe, M.D., FAAP, chair of the Committee on Pediatric Emergency Medicine, who added, "The most important point is to get away from the nest."
