Iron and breath-holding

Stafanie Dell'Aringa

Iron therapy is effective treatment for breath-holding spells, a common pediatric problem occurring in up to 27 percent of healthy children, according to a study conducted at Jordan University of Science and Technology, Irbid, Jordan.

In a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, patients received medical evaluations and provided information on frequency of attacks, age and family history.

The treatmnent group received 5 mg of a ferrous sulfate solution orally daily for 16 weeks.
