Vitamin C might ease airway hyperactivity in children with exercise-induced asthma (EIA), researchers in Israel reported. In a university study of 13 males and seven females, ages 7 to 28, each patient was diagnosed with EIA, measured by a 15 percent decline in FEV1 after a standard treadmill exercise test. Participants were split into two groups and advised to stop using their regular asthma medication or bronchodilators 12 hours before testing. The first group received 2 g of ascorbic acid, the other a placebo one hour before a treadmill exercise session.
