Basic guidelines should be followed for interviewing a child when abuse is suspected, and pediatricians should have a developmentally appropriate approach for recording information, a Missouri article reported. The review suggests pediatricians develop a format that elicits appropriate information without contaminating the history, differentiate between open-ended, focused, and leading questions during a child abuse interview, and review appropriate reasons for conducting interviews when allegations are made.
