Recently approved drugs and new research offer the chance for longer survival for HIV-infected children and better prevention of mother-to-infant AIDS transmission, according to Florida researchers. Combination drug therapy, now being tested through pediatric AIDS trials, shows the most promise for long-term survival, the study showed. Types of therapy available include: nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (zidovudine (ZDV), didanosine (DDI), zalcitabine (DDC), lamivudine (3TC) and stavudine);
