In rare cases, children treated with recombinant growth hormone face a risk of obstructive and central sleep apnea, according to Missouri researchers. Of 145 pediatric patients receiving growth hormone therapy at a St. Louis children's hospital, four developed sleep apnea despite having no history of sleep disorders. Tonsils and adenoids in the four patients were normal size before GH treatment.
