Regurgitation, a common episode during the first year of life, peaks at age 4 months, with symptoms decreasing dramatically at 6 to 7 months, a Chicago study showed. Gastroesophageal reflux (GER) in infancy can result in esophagitis, esophageal stricture, malnutrition and iron-deficiency anemia. Knowing GER's natural course can help pediatricians and parents identify when symptoms go beyond normal boundaries.
