CPT coding changes affecting pediatrics

AAP Division of Physician Payment Systems

The 1998 version of the American Medical Association's Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Manual includes the following coding changes that will affect pediatricians:

Newborn care

99436 was created to code for attendance at delivery (when requested by the delivering physician) and initial stabilization of a newborn.

Due to the creation of this code, 99360 can no longer be used for standby at deliveries, and the words "standby for high risk delivery" have been deleted.
