Suicide symptoms

Adolescent patients who overuse ego defense mechanisms such as displacement and introjection, and underuse the defense mechanism compensation are more likely to make suicide attempts, according to a New York study.

Researchers studied 55 suicidal adolescent inpatients, 87 nonsuicidal adolescent patients and 81 nonpatients to assess defense mechanisms, clinical characteristics, suicidal behavior and level of violence.
