An experimental vaccine has proven highly effective against bacterial meningitis and bacteremia caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. A three-year Phase III clinical trial involving more than 38,000 California children yielded such favorable results that researchers ended their study ahead of schedule. Halsey, M.D., AAP Committee on Infectious Diseases (COID) chair.
