Helps determine if plans are working: Academy releases SCHIP Evaluation Tool

The Academy has developed a tool to help child advocates across the country determine whether the latest federal effort to bring health care to nearly 4 million uninsured children is working.

In October, as part of its ongoing support of the Title XXI State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), the Academy released its SCHIP Evaluation Tool.

It singles out 30 factors that states and the federal government can measure to determine whether SCHIP plans are working. These include:

• 10 "access" indicators that show how well a state is identifying and enrolling uninsured children;
