AAP explores NRTA partnership

Sherry Trust Llewellyn

Throughout this year, the Academy has been working with representatives from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) in an effort to establish a partnership focusing on the health of children. The group, the National Retired Teachers Association (NRTA), shares a number of common interests with the Academy.

"Over the years there has been a tremendous amount of cooperation between pediatricians and teachers," said AAP Past President Robert Hannemann, M.D. "This is an extension of that effort into the retired community."

NRTA is an association within AARP that is active in 50 states through 2,700 local organizations. As retired teachers, NRTA members have a particular interest in the well-being of children. This offers the Academy a unique opportunity to partner with an organization that shares similar objectives in keeping children healthy.
