New task force to develop family-friendly research, policy, materials

In response to 1993 and 1994 Annual Chapter Forum resolutions calling for the development of AAP policy that is family friendly, the Academy recently established the Task Force on the Family. Chaired by Ed Schor, M.D., FAAP, the task force is charged with the following directives:

• Analyze the social science and medical literature to quantify the nature of those factors that strengthen the family's ability to nurture children;

• Develop materials to enable Academy members to teach parenting skills to families in their practices, and assist residency programs in developing health education curricula that support teaching about optimal family function in a culturally sensitive manner;
