The first emergency room-based interactive kiosk, designed to disseminate timely information on missing children nationwide, was recently unveiled in the pediatric emergency unit at Charity Hospital, New Orleans. The AAP-endorsed Deliver Me Home kiosk program, developed by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NMEC) and underwritten by Pizza Hut, has established 42 kiosks in busy public areas, with plans to install up to 400. On hand for the launch were, from left, AAP President Joseph R. Zanga, M.D., vice chair, department of pediatrics, Louisiana State University Medical Center, and professor of pediatrics and emergency medicine, LSU Medical Center, Marilyn Lundy of Lundy Enterprises, local Pizza Hut franchise owner and kiosk sponsor, and Dan Broughton, M.D., FAAP, NMEC chairman. Each kiosk displays a brief video program and alerts on currently missing children, plus bilingual safety tips. A hotline phone is included for immediate reporting of child sightings.
