Physicians who receive free vaccine supplies are less likely to refer children to public clinics for immunizations, according to a Pittsburgh study. To investigate economic barriers to immunizations, researchers conducted a national survey of 1,227 physicians representing general pediatricians, board-certified family physicians and general practitioners. Results showed 66 percent of physicians were likely to refer an uninsured child to a public health clinic for immunization; 8 percent referred insured children.
