What impact do today's music lyrics, with increasingly more explicit and graphic references to drugs, sex and violence, have on youth behavior? Is this type of music contributing to problems like juvenile crime, teen pregnancy and teen suicide? Those are the questions Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) set out to investigate when he held a Senate Subcommittee hearing on Nov. 6. "Over the past several years, there has been a marked increase in the number of exceptionally violent, crude, brutal, anti-woman songs that are not only out in the market, but in many cases, are topping the charts," said Mr. Brownback. "Recent best-selling albums have included graphic descriptions of murder, torture and rape."
