Insider's persective reveals Academy's sphere of influence

Joseph R. Zanga M.D., FAAP1

1 President, American Academy of Pediatrics

Dear Colleagues:

Some random musings as I sit at 35,000 feet heading to another AAP destination, trying to keep my sparkling water from spilling and my sinuses from exploding as a URI and changes in cabin pressure conspire to give me an awful headache.

January was an interesting month. Errol Alden, M.D., AAP deputy director, and I journeyed to India, where I represented the American Academy of Pediatrics as keynote speaker at the Indian Academy of Pediatrics National Conference. We also met with the publishers of the Indian edition of Pediatrics to discuss a variety of issues. Exciting stuff for a boy from the Bronx, and it was good to be there. Journeys like this make me appreciate the Academy so much more, and I wish that each of you could get an "insider's" look at the work done by the board, committees, sections, and of course, our wonderful, knowledgeable and hard working staff.
