Due to physicians' recent diifficulties in obtaining Immune Globulin Intravenous (IGIV), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has asked drug manufacturers to establish an emergency reserve supply, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. IGIV shortage may be caused by decreases in production, product recalls and a progressive increase in usage. The FDA is working closely with manufacturers to expedite lot release and to facilitate increased production and distribution.
