Pediatricians eager for more drug therapy education: survey

Pediatricians would like more education on the therapeutic uses of drugs and related issues, according to a recent AAP Periodic Survey of Fellows. The survey, initiated by the AAP Section on Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, assessed pediatricians' educational needs in this area and found that:

fifty-one percent of pediatricians said they are very interested and 41 percent are somewhat interested in receiving drug therapy education from the Academy;

• more than three-fourths of pediatricians (77 percent) said they would use drug therapy handbooks, guidelines or brochures;

• two-thirds would like to receive drug therapy education via AAP self-instructional material such as PREP (Pediatric Review and Education Programs) or PIR (Pediatrics in Review), as well as journal articles; and
