For children with special health care needs, just getting around can a big problem, and traveling to and from numerous medical appointments with far-off specialists can be overwhelming. To ease this burden, a Boston health consortium has been testing a program that centralizes a variety of services in pediatric offices, thus giving these children with special needs a medical home. One year into the project, the concept is succeeding. The Pediatric Alliance for Coordinated Care (PACC) brings together six pediatric sites to deliver community-based, family-centered care for about 200 children with special needs and their families.
