Prescription for youthful couch potato? Turn off television

For the week of April 22 through April 28, pediatricians can prescribe an easy and inexpensive remedy to help combat such children's health problems as aggressive behavior and obesity. The prescription: Encourage families to turn off the television.

The Academy is one of many organizations participating in National TV-Turnoff Week, which could result in the average American child reclaiming more than three hours each day for other potentially healthier activities. By taking a solid, week-long break from television, children will have more time for active play, family interaction, physical activity, reading, thinking, creating and doing.
