Because teens can be exposed to many occupational hazards, pediatricians are encouraged to include work-related safety counseling in clinical encounters, according to a North Carolina study. Researchers asked 562 teens, ages 14 to 17 years, about the types of jobs they held, duties involved, work-related hazards and injuries sustained while on the job. While more than half reported working at someone's home, the most common non-home jobs were in retail stores, restaurants, at construction sites and in grocery stores.
