Mold allergy is a risk factor for persistent cold-like symptoms (PCLS) in children, therefore parents should try to eradicate mold in their homes, according to Florida researchers. Researchers studied 44 children ages 4 to 14 years, with perennial allergic rhinitis diagnosed at an allergy clinic. All had sensitivity to at least three mold allergens; 25 had PCLS for at least the last two years. Clinical criteria for PCLS included moderate to severe nasal congestion, cough, bloodshot eyes, postnasal drip, headache and fatigue continuing for more than two weeks.
