Bill to address children in managed care plans

Whether you love, hate or are undecided about managed care, mounting anecdotal evidence suggests that health plans may be overlooking the "unique" health care needs of children. With Congress debating managed care quality and consumer protection this session, Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.) introduced legislation that would establish a set of managed care standards specific to children.

"This is a special population, and it's simply common sense to recognize that they have special health care needs," Reed said. "Sick children deserve a pediatric specialist who understands their unique health care needs."
